The one mainstream LGBT issue that is often dwarfed by gay marriage is the matter of gay adoption. Livescience.com published an article last month detailing the many reasons gay parents make excellent parents more often than not. Sunday, April 15th will be more extraordinary than ever! Join Miami Beach City Mayor Matti Bower, your friends, family and allies for the 4th annual Miami Beach Gay PRIDE parade and festival.
Two important events are taking place this month. Those are the Pride celebrations that happen annually in Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach. PrideFest Fort Lauderdale is one of the most distinguished with roots that were planted over 30 years ago. At that time, Anita Bryant began her “Save Our Children” campaign that sought to annul a Miami-Dade county law that prohibited discrimination based on sexual orientation. This event was born from political motives to bring the community together, and although the damage that Anita caused with her campaign wouldn't be repaired until over 20 years later, the event continued to grow until today. PrideFest Palm Beach also has a long history with more than 19 years of celebrations.

Since this March is the zenith of the Republican primary season, it inspired me to slip into a daydream the other day. Imagine if the LGBT community was a political party. And, this party has managed to find, fund and put forth a highly viable candidate to compete against the current herd of Republicans. Imagine that we lived in country where all citizens actually voted for the most honorable, resolute and accomplished candidate. I dare say the LGBT candidate would win by a landslide! Since politics has always been in the business of 'what have you done for me lately', the LGBT candidate would have a seemingly endless list of successes on which to run.
More than 10,000 beautiful people dancing on the sands of South Beach is among the many highlights that draw thousands worldwide to one of the country's premier LGBT fund-raising events: the annual Winter Party Festival, which features art and culture, shopping, cocktail receptions, pool parties and multiple dance events with world-class DJs and entertainment. This year's Winter Party Festival takes place February 29th to March 5th and, once again, promises to deliver something for everyone. Even better, the event raises important dollars that benefit many local South Florida causes throughout the year.
